Nitrogen Policy

The Engineering School provides, as a service, liquid nitrogen for our customers.

The customer name, date, department, project grant number and qty dispensed are required for departmental billing.

The on-line Liquid Nitrogen Dispensing Form below must be filled out and submitted PRIOR to dispensing.

Per Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines, usage of the following Personal Protective Equipment is strongly recommended when handling and dispensing liquid nitrogen.

It is the responsibility of each user to ensure the protective equipment is worn at all times:

  • Face Shield worn with Chemical Splash Goggles
  • Insulated Cryogenic Gloves
  • Closed-Toe Shoes
  • Lab Coat
  • Hearing Protection (ear plugs/muffs)

More information can be found online in the EHS lab safety manual

The E-Quad Receiving Dock has insulated gloves, a face shield and hearing protection available to use when dispensing liquid nitrogen. Please contact x82007 if you need to borrow this equipment. If no one is available, call the Stockroom x84739.

Failure to utilize proper protective equipment while handling hazardous materials may result in notification to the University Research Board
